The implementation of the project will rely upon the collaboration of the following partners coming from three different Departments of the University of Athens:
– the Speech and Accessibility Laboratory of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications (coordinating partner)
– the Laboratory of Music Acoustics and Technology of the Department of Musical Studies
– the Ancient Hellenic Script and Music Programme of the Department of Philology
The project team is in the process of engaging the support of a wider spectrum of organizations and institutions, including:
- The Hellenic MinistryofEducation (Aegis)
- Academic institutions and associations (MOISA, Austrian Academy of Sciences(ÖAW), University of Cambridge, EMAET)
- Cultural institutions and organizations (Meet culture)
The support and involvement of the above partners is paramount in ensuring the viability and further development of the project’s scope.
The challenge emerging here is the opening of a market with two parallel and interdependent ends: on the “offer” side the HERMES project will provide a group of qualified instrument makers as well as musicians using and teaching these instruments, while on the “demand” side the project team is working on creating a network of supporting cultural, educational and scientific organizations which will be eager to utilize the project’s products and services in the context of their own mission and perspective. Until now the project team has received support statements indicating specific areas of collaboration, such as interactive exhibitions (Meet-Culture), concerts (MOISA), ancient drama performances (University of Cambridge musicians), musical scoring of film making on ancient Hellenic civilization (EMAET), research development and growing of the community in the field through the musical practice (ÖAW), introduction of ancient Hellenic musical instruments in public education (music schools).
